Job Description


We are looking for an experienced Head – Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) to lead the electrical, instrumentation, automation, and control functions of a cement manufacturing plant. The role will be responsible for ensuring reliable power distribution, high equipment availability, uninterrupted plant operations, energy efficiency, safety, and statutory compliance.

Role Overview

The Head – E&I will oversee the maintenance and reliability of electrical and instrumentation systems across the cement plant, including substations, HT/LT networks, transformers, motors, VFDs, MCCs, DCS, PLC, SCADA, analyzers, field instruments, and protection systems. The role will also drive automation, modernization, digitalization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead maintenance of electrical and instrumentation systems across all plant sections.
  • Ensure high availability and reliability of electrical, automation, and control systems with minimal downtime.
  • Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.
  • Lead troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for electrical and instrumentation failures.
  • Plan and execute annual shutdowns, major overhauls, and maintenance activities within schedule and budget.
  • Optimize electrical power consumption and improve overall energy efficiency.
  • Ensure timely calibration, testing, and maintenance of process instruments and protection systems.
  • Monitor the health and performance of substations, transformers, HT/LT systems, motors, VFDs, MCCs, and electrical protection systems.
  • Maintain reliability of DCS, PLC, SCADA, analyzers, and industrial automation systems.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, statutory regulations, and applicable plant automation standards.
  • Lead modernization, automation, digitalization, and technology-upgradation projects.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to safety and maintenance standards.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor the E&I team to strengthen technical capabilities and operational performance.

  • Specific power consumption (kWh/tonne of cement)
  • MTBF and MTTR
  • Calibration compliance
  • Shutdown completion as per schedule
  • Maintenance cost optimization
  • Safety performance and reduction of Lost Time Injuries
  • Statutory and regulatory compliance

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
  • 15–20+ years of experience in Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance, preferably within cement manufacturing.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior E&I leadership role.
  • Strong expertise in power distribution, HT/LT systems, transformers, motors, VFDs, MCCs, and electrical protection systems.
  • Strong knowledge of DCS, PLC, SCADA, process instrumentation, analyzers, and industrial automation.
  • Experience in preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting and RCA capabilities for electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems.
  • Experience managing plant shutdowns, maintenance projects, contractors, and technical teams.
  • Good understanding of electrical safety, statutory compliance, and industrial automation standards.
