Job Description


We are hiring an Assistant Manager – Hazardous Cargo / DG Operations for a leading shipping organization in Mumbai. The role will be responsible for handling hazardous cargo applications, DG documentation, approvals, and ensuring compliance with IMDG regulations and company SOPs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and manage Hazardous Cargo (HAZ/DG) applications.
  • Verify DG documentation, including DGD, MSDS, chemical names, IMDG details, and emergency contacts.
  • Ensure all DG cargo applications comply with prescribed acceptance guidelines and company procedures.
  • Apply for required DG approvals through the MSC D-MAX system and coordinate with Vessel Stowage Planners.
  • Provide approved HAZ Approval Numbers to Sales, Customer Service, and customers for booking placement.
  • Verify that all relevant documents are properly signed and endorsed by the Exporter/Shipper.
  • Ensure hazardous cargo is tendered within specified Gate C/OFF and HAZ DOC C/OFF timelines.
  • Coordinate amendments relating to cargo, commodity, vessel, or voyage and ensure timely communication to the liner.
  • Follow up with the Central DG Desk for required DG approvals.
  • Respond promptly to customer and internal queries related to hazardous cargo.
  • Cross-check D-MAX reports against operations/inyard reports to ensure HAZ container details and approvals are accurate.
  • Monitor and follow up on required documentation within agreed timelines.
  • Ensure strict adherence to IMDG regulations, DG procedures, SOPs, and compliance requirements.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the team leader.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, preferably a Science graduate.
  • Experience in DG / Hazardous Cargo handling is preferred.
  • Good understanding of IMDG regulations and DG documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in document verification.
  • Good coordination and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle time-sensitive approvals and multiple stakeholder queries.
