Job Description

The Vessel Operator will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operational activities of voyage and time-chartered tankers. The role involves close coordination with charterers, brokers, agents, vessels, and owners to ensure smooth voyage execution, compliance with charterparty terms, vessel readiness, and protection of owners' interests.

Role Overview

The role requires strong commercial awareness and operational knowledge of tanker shipping, with a focus on chemical and oil/vegetable oil operations. Candidates with shore-based chemical tanker operating experience or relevant seagoing tanker experience may be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily operational activities for voyage and time-chartered tankers.
  • Ensure compliance with agreed charterparty terms and operational requirements.
  • Communicate with charterers, brokers, agents, and vessels regarding voyage orders and itineraries.
  • Monitor vessel movements and overall voyage performance.
  • Review vessel stowage plans and tank cleaning plans.
  • Coordinate freight charge fixing and cargo space requirements.
  • Liaise with vessel owners regarding Oil Major approvals.
  • Protect owners' interests throughout voyage operations and cargo handling.
  • Ensure cargo is released against appropriate Bills of Lading (B/Ls) and Letters of Indemnity (LOIs).
  • Monitor operations conducted under LOIs and ensure appropriate compliance.
  • Ensure vessel readiness and operational requirements are aligned with charterparty terms.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of relevant shore-based tanker operations experience preferred.
  • Chemical tanker operating experience preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of tanker operations.
  • Experience as a Master, Chief Mate, or Second Mate on oil/chemical tankers may be considered.
  • Non-seafarers with relevant chemical or vegetable oil operations experience may also be considered.
  • Good communication and coordination skills for working with charterers, brokers, agents, owners, and vessels.
  • Ability to manage operational activities while protecting owners' commercial interests.

About the Role

This role is suited to professionals with tanker operations experience who can effectively coordinate vessel activities, charterparty requirements, cargo operations, and stakeholder communication. Both shore-based tanker operators and experienced oil/chemical tanker seafarers with relevant commercial exposure may be considered.
