Job Description


We are hiring an Assistant QHSSE Superintendent to support the QHSSE and marine assurance activities for a Qatar-based fleet. The role is suited to maritime professionals with shore-based QHSSE, marine operations, or safety experience, along with a strong understanding of vessel safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements. Shore-based experience is preferred for this position, while sailing experience will be an added advantage.

The Assistant QHSSE Superintendent will support the implementation and monitoring of the company's Safety Management System, vessel inspections, incident investigations, risk management, crew training, and regulatory compliance. The role will involve close coordination with vessels and shore-based teams to ensure effective implementation of QHSSE standards and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of QHSSE policies, procedures, and management systems across the fleet.
  • Assist with Permit to Work (PTW) processes and ensure compliance with established safety procedures.
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes and ensure appropriate risk assessment and documentation.
  • Participate in incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action follow-up.
  • Conduct and support vessel inspections, safety inspections, and internal audits.
  • Follow up on inspection findings, observations, non-conformities, and corrective actions.
  • Assist with crew training, safety briefings, familiarisation, and follow-up of training requirements.
  • Monitor vessel compliance with applicable maritime regulations and company procedures.
  • Support implementation and compliance with SOLAS, ISM, ISPS, MLC, and MARPOL requirements. 
  • Assist in maintaining QHSSE records, reports, checklists, and supporting documentation.
  • Support risk assessments, safety campaigns, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with Masters, Chief Officers, vessel teams, and shore-based departments on QHSSE matters.
  • Assist with preparation for internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
  • Monitor closure of audit observations, incidents, and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Support emergency response and other QHSSE activities as required.
  • Prepare periodic QHSSE reports and provide updates to management.
  • Perform other QHSSE and marine assurance duties assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Degree or relevant qualification in Nautical Science, Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, Safety, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Prior shore-based experience in QHSSE, marine operations, marine assurance, safety, or ship management is preferred.
  • Strong practical knowledge of:
    • Permit to Work
    • Management of Change
    • Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis
    • Vessel Inspections
    • Crew Training and Follow-up
  • Good knowledge of SOLAS, ISM, ISPS, MLC, and MARPOL requirements.
  • Experience with safety management systems, risk assessments, audits, inspections, and corrective actions.
  • Previous seagoing experience will be an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of vessel operations and maritime safety practices.
  • Good analytical, documentation, and reporting skills.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and relevant QHSSE reporting systems.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with vessel and shore-based teams.
