Job Description


We are hiring a Vessel Manager for a leading global ship management organisation in Mumbai. The role is suited to experienced marine engineering professionals with container vessel experience and strong technical management capabilities. Candidates with relevant shore-based experience will be preferred. The organisation operates a large and modern containership fleet, including dual-fuel vessels.

The Vessel Manager will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and economical operation of assigned vessels, providing shore-based technical guidance to vessel teams and overseeing maintenance, repairs, compliance, budgeting, and vessel performance. The role requires strong technical knowledge, commercial awareness, and the ability to coordinate effectively between ship and shore teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide, advise, and monitor the technical and operational performance of assigned vessels.
  • Provide shore-based technical support to Masters and Chief Engineers.
  • Monitor vessel maintenance, machinery performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Research and resolve technical issues related to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, upgrades, and modifications.
  • Oversee planned maintenance, repairs, surveys, and dry-docking activities.
  • Coordinate procurement and supply of spares, stores, and technical services.
  • Monitor vessel performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Class, Flag State, IMO, statutory, and company requirements.
  • Monitor operational certifications, surveys, inspections, and regulatory compliance.
  • Review technical reports and ensure effective follow-up and closure of vessel issues.
  • Prepare and monitor vessel operating, repair, and dry-docking budgets.
  • Monitor vessel expenditure and analyse budget variances.
  • Support vessel inspections and visit vessels when required.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, ship staff, vendors, Class, and other external stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of technical and operational issues and ensure timely resolution.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across assigned vessels.
  • Maintain effective communication between ship and shore teams.
  • Prepare technical, operational, and management reports as required.

Requirements

  • Chief Engineer with strong technical management experience.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of relevant shore-based experience preferred.
  • Approximately 2 years of container vessel technical experience preferred.
  • Candidates with experience on dual-fuel vessels will be strongly preferred.
  • Candidates with MEGI dual-fuel engine experience will be considered.
  • Strong understanding of marine engineering, vessel maintenance, PMS, repairs, and technical operations.
  • Experience with dry-docking, surveys, vessel inspections, and technical projects.
  • Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations and Class/Flag requirements.
  • Good understanding of technical budgeting, procurement, and cost control.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Candidates willing to relocate to Mumbai may be considered.
