Job Description


We are seeking an experienced HSSEQ Officer with a strong seagoing background as a Chief Officer on tanker vessels. This opportunity is suited to maritime professionals with practical tanker operations experience and knowledge of Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality (HSSEQ) requirements.

The role involves supporting HSSEQ activities, vessel inspections, compliance, incident prevention, and continuous improvement across tanker operations. The position is based in Chennai.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support HSSEQ activities for tanker vessel operations.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable maritime regulations, safety standards, company procedures, and industry requirements.
  • Conduct and support vessel inspections, audits, and HSSEQ assessments.
  • Review vessel operations and identify safety, environmental, quality, and operational risks.
  • Follow up on inspection findings, observations, and corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support investigation of incidents, accidents, near misses, and other safety-related events.
  • Assist vessel teams in implementing effective safety and environmental procedures.
  • Review HSSEQ documentation, reports, records, and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate with Masters, Chief Officers, vessel crews, and shore-based teams on HSSEQ matters.
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System and HSSEQ procedures.
  • Promote safe working practices and a strong safety culture across tanker operations.
  • Prepare and maintain HSSEQ reports, records, and relevant documentation.

Requirements:

  • Mandatory: Previous sailing experience as Chief Officer on tanker vessels.
  • Strong practical knowledge of tanker vessel operations.
  • Good understanding of marine safety, environmental, security, and quality requirements.
  • Experience in vessel inspections, audits, safety management systems, or incident reporting will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of applicable maritime regulations and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with vessel crews and shore-based stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work from Chennai.
